What is Specialist Disability Accommodation?
Specialist Disability Accommodation or SDA is new housing that has been designed for people with very high support needs.
If you are eligible for SDA funding, your housing options could include moving to a new home, villa or apartment, living by yourself, living with the same or different housemates, or buying your own home. You could also use your SDA funding to continue living where you are now.
As a trusted provider of living supports Ability Centre is partnering with SDA providers to offer you a choice of modern and high quality SDA homes, with the support you need to live more independently.
Am I eligible for SDA housing?
To be eligible for SDA, you must have an extreme functional impairment and/or very high support needs. For example:
Extreme functional impairment: you need lots of support from someone with many of your daily tasks such as moving around at home, your personal care, meal preparation, or looking after yourself. This is on top of any assistive technology or home modifications.
Very high support needs: you need lots of person to person support, for a significant part of the day from paid support workers. You may have lived in a group home for a long time.
SDA housing and living supports with Ability Centre
Ability Centre can support you towards your SDA housing goal, and provide the support you need to live a safe and independent life.
To apply for SDA housing you will need a housing goal in your NDIS Plan, and funding to use for a Home and Living Supports Functional Impact Assessment. If you do not have a housing goal in your NDIS Plan you can ask NDIS for a Plan Review.
Our experienced therapy team can undertake your Home and Living Supports Functional Impact Assessment. We will work with you to prepare a Functional Assessment report for the NDIS SDA Panel about how you meet the eligibility criteria for SDA and your housing preferences.
If NDIS approves you for SDA funding, you will be able to choose your SDA housing. Our team will support you all the way through from these first steps to moving into your new home.
