Do you live in the NDIS or MY Way trial sites?

What is the NDIS and WA NDIS My Way and how will it affect me?

The Commonwealth and Western Australian Governments recently signed the Agreements that will launch the two-year trial of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Western Australia. Two different trials will operate in Western Australia.

The State Government’s WA NDIS My Way model is currently being trialled in the Lower South West region with the Cockburn-Kwinana area joining in July 2015. The Commonwealth Government’s NDIS will be trialled in the Perth Hills commencing 1 July 2014.

Trialling both schemes will mean service users and families will ultimately be the beneficiaries of the best possible delivery model for Western Australia, with an independent evaluation occurring on both trial schemes.

Key features of NDIS and WA NDIS My Way

Developing an Individualised Plan is central to the NDIS and WA NDIS My Way process and will be one of the first things undertaken.

If you are in one of the trial sites you may want to start making a list of the current services and supports that you receive from friends, family, the community and various service providers as this will be important to provide to the NDIA and WA NDIS My Way.

If you are being supported by Ability Centre, you can ask to have us involved in the development of your NDIS or WA NDIS My Way Individual Plan to help ensure it captures all of the support being provided and that it reflects your goals and aspirations.  Your Individual Plan will also identify natural supports that are available in your community.

Choice, control and flexibility are key features of the NDIS – you may want to think about how involved you want to be in directing your services and supports.

You may also want to consider if you want to manage your own services and funding or have someone assist with this (This is something that we can also assist with).

Please contact Ability Centre and talk to one of our team members to find out more about our services and how the NDIS will affect you. Call 9443 0333 or email
