Grab the diary, it’s time to get planning as Ability Centre’s therapy team roll out some great holiday programs and activities for all ages.

We have groups running across the metropolitan area. Scroll down to find all the details. Places in all groups are filling fast and bookings are essential.

Registering for a group is an expression of interest only. Please discuss with your Key Contact or Primary Therapist if the group is appropriate for working on your goals and the hours are included on your goal plan. Alternatively we can provide Fee for Service rates for groups.

Northern Groups

Ready, Steady, School!

Ability Centre North Hub

Children entering Kindy or Pre-Primary in 2019

  • Kindy/ pre-primary skill development in readiness for starting a new school year
  • Supports the development of skills needed for kindy and pre-primary with a focus on hand skills and table-top skills e.g. pre-writing, cutting, gluing, construction, puzzles, sensory play
  • Development of other independence skills required for school e.g. opening lunchbox and school bag
  • Opportunities to develop social play skills
  • Development of routine and support focussed attention

Let's Play

A fun group for children, their parents and siblings who play with toys in alternative ways then using their hands such as using a switch.

  • Develop cause and effect skills
  • Learn how to use imaginative play through alternative access
  • Have fun with family and (new) friends
  • Practice using a switch to access toys and choices

A kindy-readiness program coordinated by Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.

  • Building skills required for Kindy or Pre-primary

  • Practice sitting, listening and talking to new friends
  • Develop gross motor and fine motor skills

Aims to help children develop their social skills and make friends comfortably.

  • Conversation skills – how to initiate conversations with others, asking and answering questions, and sharing information with others
  • Turn taking and waiting for your turn
  • Talking on a topic – including semantic language development
  • Listening to others
  • Staying with the group and attending to a task – providing strategies to help manage a situation that may be overwhelming
  • Sharing experiences with others and having fun in a group situation
