Grab the diary, it’s time to get planning as Ability Centre’s therapy team roll out another term jam-packed with some great programs and activities for all ages.

We have groups running across the metropolitan area. Scroll down to find all the details. Places in all groups are filling fast and bookings are essential.

Registering for a group is an expression of interest only. Please discuss with your Key Contact or Primary Therapist if the group is appropriate for working on your goals and the hours are included on your goal plan. Alternatively we can provide Fee for Service rates for groups.

Northern Groups

Xcelerate Running Group

Admiral Park
65 Admiral Grove, Heathridge

School Age and Young Adults (up to 25 years)
Every Monday & Wednesday from 15th October – 5th December (8 weeks)
4.15pm – 5.15pm

  • An intensive and individualised running skills program for school-aged children and young Adults applied in a fun group setting.
  • Improve your running technique, speed and fitness. An opportunity to meet other children of similar abilities in a fun learning environment.

Sports Skills

Admiral Park
65 Admiral Grove, Heathridge

5–10 years 
Every Wednesday from 17th October – 14th November (8 weeks)
3.20pm – 4.05pm
 

  • The group will focus on sport-based skills (throwing, catching and mobility) within general fitness games.
  • It would be ideal for those kids who were previously interested and involved in sport but have lately reduced their participation or notice a difference between their skill development compared to their peers.

Drum and Beat

Ability Centre North Hub

School aged children
Every Tuesday – Dates TBC
4pm – 5pm 

During Drum and Beat sessions, children will come together to have fun and make music. Lead by specialists in music rhythm therapy, the group aims to encourage social interactions and participation through activities such as drumming and electronic beat making.

Jellybean Playgroup

Early Intervention Hydrotherapy

Butler College
15 McCormack Blvd, Butler

0–4 years
Every Monday from 15th October – 3rd December
1pm – 1.45pm

  • An introduction to water with your child with familiarisation to swimming and water safety such as blowing bubbles, floating and kicking.
  • Develop motor skills such as rolling, sitting, crawling, standing and walking.
  • An opportunity to socialise and have fun for children and parents.

Water Based Therapy (Hydrotherapy)

Butler College
15 McCormack Blvd, Butler

Children and Adults
Every Monday from 15th October – 3rd December
2pm – 5pm

  • Whether you are learning to swim, completing rehabilitation post-surgery or wanting to maintain your physical fitness, hydrotherapy is for you!
  • Physiotherapists will work with you to develop an individualised program designed to specifically target your personal goals.

Food Explorers

Ability Centre North Hub

Parent Education Sessions
Every Tuesday from 23rd October – 3rd December
10am – 11.30pm

  • For children who are picky eaters, resistant to trying new foods or will only eat a small selection of foods.
  • This group provides practical strategies to promote multi-sensory exposure to new foods in a safe and positive way.
  • Learn techniques to assist with shopping and food preparation.

X-ert Gym Group

Craigie Leisure Centre

14 years – Young Adults
Every Thursday from 26th October – 29th November
4pm – 5pm

  • Xert is a gym based exercise circuit aimed at orientating teens/adults to the gym space, setting them up with exercises to continue on with and fostering friendships that they may lead to future gym buddies.
  • The aim is to motivate the group to get started with gym-based exercise and then continue on with sports or exercise in the community.

Hanen– It Takes Two to Talk®

Parent Education Sessions
Date TBC, 7 weeks, 5 group sessions and 2 individual sessions

For parents of children 5 years and under identified as having a language delay.

Program aims:

  • Recognize your child’s stage and style of communication
  • Identify what motivates your child to interact with you so you’ll know how to get conversations started
  • Adjust everyday routines to help your child take turns and keep interactions going
  • Follow your child’s lead to build his confidence and encourage him to communicate

Hanen– More Than Words®

Parent Education Sessions
Date TBC, 10 weeks, 8 group sessions and 2 individual sessions

For parents of children 8 years and under on the autism spectrum or with social communication difficulties.

Program aims:

  • How your child learns best and what motivates him to communicate
  • How to make interactions with your child last longer and be more meaningful
  • Tips for using pictures and print to help your child’s understanding
  • Strategies for developing your child’s play skills

Central Groups

Lego Group Therapy Program

Ellenbrook Library

9–14 years
Every Wednesday from 17th–31st October & 14th–28th November
3.45pm – 4.45pm

This weekly Lego group is for children with High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder or Social Communication Difficulties. Run by one of our talented Speech Pathologists, this group aims to provide a safe space for children who have trouble making friends at school, to connect with each other through Lego.

Southern Groups

Let's Play

Ability Centre South Hub

1–5 years
Every Tuesday from 16th October – 20th November 
10am – 11am

Our brand new and exciting early access/ switching group!

  • Aims to develop accuracy of switching, whilst playing and having fun with friends and family.
  • Includes interactive switch games, imaginative play and fun with switch adapted toys.
  • Need to have a switch or mounting equipment

Parents and siblings are encouraged to attend.

Let's Make Friends

Panama Studio, Canning Vale

8–13 years
Every Wednesday from 31st October – 5th November
4pm – 5pm

A social skills based group, which focuses on learning about ourselves, our emotions and what makes us tick, and of course, how this helps us to make friends! This is a side-by-side group, one for the children, and one for the parents.
